The Argentinean Surgeon

The Argentinean Surgeon

During Peron’s political reign, an Argentinian heart surgeon named Rene Favaloro created an innovative surgery to cure heart attacks.

The coronary bypass heart surgery would eventually save countless number of lives around the world and become adopted as the world standard treatment for heart attacks and coronary health issues. Despite his passion and dedication, Dr. Favaloro’s visionary contribution to society would later result in struggling with private demons for which there was no cure. Although a brilliant and committed surgeon, Dr. Favaloro was not the best businessman. After his Favoloro Foundation fell into $18M (US dollars) of debt, Dr. Favoloro ended his own life by committing suicide, shooting himself in the heart.
The man who healed so many hearts around the world was sadly unable to heal his own. This film portrays the life of this unsung Latin American hero who changed the lives of many at the tragic expense of his own life.
